In Paradise and still missing Home. Koh Chang and Koh Maak

Panoramic Paradise

It’s been almost 6 months on the road now and more than 20 months since I left Canada behind to go teach in Italy and England.  Don’t get me wrong, or read the title wrong, I’m loving my life more than ever before, but, like most who spend so long on the road I do miss home.

It’s funny, because it’s not the obvious things that make me miss it.  I love talking to friends and family back in Canada, it’s a nice thing to do, but it usually doesn’t make me homesick, but the other day I was watching an old episode of the office, and the 14+ rating in the half maple leaf came up on the screen and that set me off on a big bout of missing all the comforts of Canada.  It brought me back to childhood when I actually watched TV on tv and cared about ratings.  It made me remember no screen days and tv limits which I am now very thankful my parents imposed, though I hated them then and did all I could to get around the rules back then. It made me remember taping old Simpson episodes on VHS so i could watch them on snow days.  (How’s winter Canada?  hehe)

I’ve had an incredible week in thailand on Koh Chang and Koh Maak, two terrific Islands.  I’ve swam and snorkelled in crystal blue waters on both islands,  I’ve walked through jungles and along endless beaches.  I’ve had a great week of writing my new novel and recording 16 songs of my new rap album.  I’ve enjoyed amazing food with amazing views.  Life is fantastic.

Still though, I will admit that I am excited to come home to Canada.  To see my family and friends.  To play Tennis, Golf and Baseball again.  To eat at some of my favourite restaurants.  And to get the bloodtests I’m supposed to be having all the time again.  Late may will be a happy homecoming.

Some people call it being homesick, that’s not what I’m feeling.  I’m loving life now.  I’m just also looking forward to a little break at home this summer too.

Check out the Hostels Hotels and Guesthouses section for a not brief enough run down of my favourite 11 hostels that I have ever stayed in.  It’s good for ideas of places to go, not just where to stay, since for me to have put the hostel on there I had to enjoy the city or town too.

At any rate have a look at some of the photos I took today on an incredible walk through tiny villages, thick jungle, and palm fringed beaches.  It was a pretty fantastic day.
