Mendoza is a strange city.  Set in the middle of a desert and yet full of lush and rich greenery thanks largely to an advanced and well developed irrigation system drawing on water from higher up in the mountains to flood the town with plant life.

I spend a decent amount of days just chilling at the very comfortable and welcoming Hostel Empedrado about 20 minutes walk from the center of Mendoza, not doing much but definitely taking some chances to wander around the city.

I also spent some time with Ceci, my friend from Mendoza who I first met in Pucon chile, before also being lucky enough to get to traverse the Uyuni Salt Flats with her, and visit Machu Picchu together with an awesome troop of people all met in back at hostel el Refugio in Pucon.

One evening I’m lucky enough to be taken up to a beautiful and strangely modern church on the outskirts of town before enjoying a feast of Mexican food and hours and hours of conversation in Spanish with her and her friends which is much needed practice for me.

I’m also lucky enough to see my friend Ben again, Ceci’s Italian boyfriend who manages to make it back to Mendoza from Italy just before my flight to Buenos Aires on the 25th.  We sadly only manage to get together once but it’s good to see another friend from all those good travel memories.

Mendoza is a beautiful and comfortable city, and If you have any interest in wine whatsoever it’s a must visit south american destination.  There’s lots of opportunities to get out of the city to nearby vineyards or up into the spectacular andes as I did earlier.  All in all it;s a very pleasant place to spend a few days.  Here are some random photos from my explorations throughout the city of Mendoza.  I hope you enjoy and get a chance to come explore it for yourself.
