Wandering in Olinda

The first part of my trip through the north east of Brazil coming to an end I pick my last two stops in Recife and Olinda.  Recife fails to impress me so I head up to the little bohemian hillside town of Olinda earlier than planned and spend a few days just wandering and chilling out before my surprise flight back to Sao Paulo.  I didn’t get up to all that much, other than wandering and buying a few small presents yet I really enjoyed my time in Olinda, the laid back vibe suiting my desires for the time being.

The food in Olinda is excellent if quite expensive when eating in restaurants and my hostel was comfy but somewhat abandoned, still the various (non swimmable) beaches around Olinda as well as the narrow winding cobblestone streets make it a perfect place to wander and relax and write a bit.  Below are some of my photos from these wanders, and don’t worry future entries will be longer and more detailed, but this few days lacked a narrative except for this tidbit.

My uber to the airport couldn’t find my hostel so I found him, then he took me to a military airfield, all the way to the second checkpoint, then turned around for a while before finally getting me to the airport.  He was very nice, but the whole experience was baffling and at times I was worried I would be arrested for trespassing on military property, but hey it all worked out and i made my flight home (thank god I leave early)  and executed a perfect surprise at Renata’s hostel showing up in place of my imagined friend who was visiting for a quick tour of Sao Paulo.  And yes, the surprise was totally worth it.  Anyway here’s the photos.
